Literal, metaphorical, fundamental

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. I believe the Bible literally when it is being literal. I believe it metaphorically when it is being metaphorical. So when Isaiah ch.55, v.12 tells me: “The mountains will burst into song and the trees of the fields shall clap their hands” – I don’t see Treebeard from Lord of the Rings!! But I do believe it is true that when God’s Kingdom comes in all fullness, at the end of time, the whole created order will be renewed with groaning turning to rejoicing. The truth of verses like the above throughout both testaments can be understood because they are expressed metaphorically rather than literally.
